Discover more from Actual Stoicism
Good morning, Prokoptôn!
This Substack publication started as a platform for expanded thoughts following episodes of the Practical Stoicism podcast — thus it was that the title of the publication reflected this.
With the rapid growth of this Substack — nearly 1000 regular subscribers reached in just 6-months — I’ve decided it’s something that can stand strong as one part of a new, less podcast-specific, brand I’ve been building in the background: ActualStoicism.com.
Actual Stoicism is a much more robust platform than the podcast has been or is capable of being. It will, beginning in the next week or so, provide fresh content in written form (here on Substack), short video form (on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram Reels), and in longer video form (on YouTube).
In short, while the podcast has been, and always will be, a project close to my heart and in production for as long as I can manage to keep it going, the call to expand our content to more effectively achieve our goals to educate as many people as possible on what Stoicism actually is, has grown great and it is time to recognize that.
To those who might think the use of “actually” here is a slight, you’re right.
We are, those of us behind this content, bothered that the most accessible “understanding” of Stoicism (the one you most easily find on social, an in Google search results) is one of utter vapidity and, most disconcertingly, misinformation.
With Actual Stoicism, we want to make it clear in our name that we mean to address this problem (we view it as a problem) head on, and change the baseline understanding of Stoicism in pop culture. Our podcast has already accomplished this to the tune of 5M people in the last 20-months, and this broadening of our content and programming will increase that number many fold.
Soon the address of this Substack will change from https://read.stoicismpod.com to https://read.actualstoicism.com. If your link ever stops working, this is why — so save this post so you’ll always have the link.
Thanks for reading, I’m looking forward to the future and I hope you are as well.
Take care,
Tanner Campbell
